Opal Rings, Custom Opal Gemstone Rings In Gold Or 925 Silver

Opal the gemstone that has amazed people for many centuries. There was a time, when the name opal literally meant a gemstone from Australia - this was what gave the country the title 'Opal Country'. But as time went by, opals started being discovered in countries far away from Australia too. Infact some of these opal gems are not seen in Australia. Fire opal rings generally use fire opal gems from Mexico although, these gems are often mined in Brazil too. When you talk about pink opal gemstone ring, the preferred choice for the pink opal stone in your ring should be Peru. Of particular interest today are Ethopian opals, some of he white opals from this country can match the beauty and grace of the finest Australian opal gemstones.

A truly spectacular opal ring for men, the oval fire opal gem in the center is flanked by two custom cut blue sapphire trillion gems. The dimensions of the center fie opal gem and the type of mounting used to set the opal, take the properties of the opal into consideration. You could have a similar mens opal gemstone ring with a white opal gem too. It might be a good idea to consider opal doublets for large opal rings or even for mens opal rings. The additional back support provided for an opal doublet will surely increase the durability of the opal gemstone too. Your mens opal ring can be ordered in gold or 925 sterling silver. The side gems for your opal ring can ofcourse be decided by you. We have more details on the MAN18 Kaisilver mens opal ring ... here.

The RG151 is a gorgeous opal ring, it is also one of the most meaningful heart opal gem stone ring that you will find. Most gem and jewelry experts agree that, the Kaisilver claddagh ring is the best rendition of this 4 century old jewel. All heart rings denote love, the claddagh opal ring goes beyond that. The features of the claddagh ring have a level of meaning that, is rarely observed in other jewels. We offer 14k and 18k claddagh rings but, recommend 14k white or yellow gold as, it is harder than 18k gold. When it comes to claddagh opal gem stone rings, you can choose from fire opal, white opal (as shown in the image) or even pink opal gems. You can read more about the Kaisilver opal claddagh ring and also get a better idea regarding, the meaning and significance of the jewel here.

Many opal gem lovers have recently started contacting Kaisilver for Ethopian opal gems and rings with Ethopian opal stones. We would like to be quite frank here, regarding opal gemstones from Ethopia. Although these white opals have now been coming for 3 to 4 years, the durability of the gem for the longterm has yet not been sufficiently researched. While this statement might make Ethopian gem providers unsatisfied, that is the truth. So while we can provide Ethopian opal gems for your gold or silver opal rings we would not be too confident about durability.

If you observe most opal gemstones, you will notice those amazing color flashes and 'sparks'. These have varying colors and surely add to the beauty of the gemstone. You might be surprised to know that the color flashes which are referred to as the 'color play' phenomenon by gem experts, are caused by the presence of moisture in the gemstone. Most opals will loose at least some degree of attractiveness and beauty if the moisture in them dries up. This is something that needs to be kept in mind when, wearing, storing or even cleaning your opal gem stone ring.

When it comes to fire opal rings, a little bit of explanation is required. These gems generally do not sure color flashes or color play. However most people select the gemstone for their fire opal ring based on color, clarity and lustre. Now let us spend a few moments discussing the color of fire opal gemstones. You could get a fire opal gem in a color range that begins with light yellow, yellowish orange, bright orange, orangish red and even very red. So which is the best fire opal color, the answer is none. During our 2 decades of jewelry manufacturing, we have observed that each color shade of fire opal has it's own following. What you will however need to keep in mind is that, the darker color shades including deep orange and orangish red fire opal stones have increasingly lesser transparency.

Opal is one gemstone that has retained a consistent demand level mainly because of it's beauty. It is gorgeous and can be found in various shades, you might have heard of the expensive black opal gems from Australia. These stones have a dark grey or black background - the color flashes can be bright green or even red. Since Kaisilver opal gems are procured directly from miners, we can provide all opal varieties for your ring and this includes black opals. However do keep in mind that, a black opal gem can quite several times more as compared to white opals or fire opal gems.

Many jewelry buyers are quite surprised when we mention that, Kaisilver opal gemstone rings can be custom made in gold or 925 sterling silver. The feeling and belief, that silver jewelry can only be made with cheap gems or junk quality gems or even with fake gems is deep in the minds of buyers. The fact is that nothing prevents any jeweler from making a 925 sterling silver opal gemstone ring, with the same quality of design, gemstone and craftsmanship as an opal gold ring. This would ofcourse not apply to buyers on the hunt for 'cheap silver opal rings', you surely cannot insist on quality when your top priority is cheap prices.

When talking about sterling silver opal gemstone rings, we would like to say a thing or two about cleaning the jewel. Firstly, we would recommend that you do not plate your 925 silver opal ring with rhodium or any other metal. This is because the plating on silver rings will wear off after a while. When cleaning your 925 silver opal gem stone ring, you will need to keep a few things in mind. This relates to the polishing lotion or fabric used to polish away any tarnish that might form on the jewel. We have covered this in better detail in the subsequent paragraph related to cleanin opal gemstone rings.

There is one more issue related to opal rings and it is important to understand it well. Opal doublets and opal triplets are words that you might come across when looking for gold or 925 silver opal rings. In the case of an opal doublet gem, a small piece of boulder opal or black onyx is stock to the base of the opal. So you basically have an opal on top and a dark base below. One of the reasons for making opal doublets is to enhance the color of the stone. Many opals are transluscent, the play of color becomes more prominent if the gem has a darkish background color. Adding a darker stone below the opal allows this to happen. The image shown below will give you an idea of how opal doublets help bring out the color play in opals.

Opal Doublet, How Is An Opal Doublet Made

Picture
The image shows an opal doublet, you can see that this gem is formed of two layers. The jeweler should inform the buyer if the gem being used in an opal ring is an opal doublet or triplet. You can see that the dark background attached to the base of the white opal, helps highlight the color flashes in the gem. At Kaisilver we are of the opinion that the back support that is added to an opal doublet also helps increase the strength of the stone. This is an important function as it works to your benefit in the longterm. At Kaisilver we do the assembly of the opal doublets inhouse, you can therefore request for an opal doublet for your silver or gold opal gemstone ring. We have a more comprehensive report on opal doublet gems, and you can access the report at http://www.kaisilver.com/opal-doublet-gems-meaning-ks-01.htm

Suggestions For Opal Doublets.

So should you consider getting an opal doublet gemstone for your opal ring. Let us do a small pros and cons checklist here. We would first of all like you to know that, it is the responsibility of the jeweler to inform the buyer if, an opal doublet is being used in a jewel. At Kaisilver, we will use an opal doublet gemstone if you specifically request for one. One other issue that has come up in recent years, is the use of cheap plastics for the base portion of opal doublet gemstones. Chinese wholesalers today make opal doublets and even triplets using small pieces of plastic or resin. Technically a piece of black plastic will give the same visual effect to an opal doublet as, a black onyx stone backing would do. However, you would surely think twice before buyng an opal doublet ring where, the gem is composed of opal and factory made plastic ! We will not criticize the Chinese factories too much as, most of the developed and industrialized nation today rely on China for their merchandise.

What we will mention here is that, Kaisilver does not rely on Chinese factories for opals or opal doublet gems. If you request for a doublet in your gold or 925 silver opal gem stone ring, we will craft and assemble the gem inhouse. The backing that we use for our opal doublet gems are natural stones. Boulder is actually a piece of rock on which opal is naturally formed. This material is hard and strong and deep brown rather than black. Another option for the backing of an opal doublet at Kaisilver, is a black onyx or black agate stone.

Still on opal doublet stones, we would like to give our expert opinion on such assembled stones. There is no doubt that the backing support of an opal doublet, would add strength and durability to the gem. The gem in your opal ring would benefit with the added durability, so it might be a good idea to consider the doublet option when ordering a gold or 925 sterling silver opal gem stone ring.

About Opal Triplet Gems.
Let us now talk about opal triplets, to begin with we would say that it is not a good idea to go for such stones when ordering an opal gem stone ring. The construction of an opal triplet gem is much like an opal doublet but, with one important difference. An opal triplet gemstone is like a sandwhich - you have an added top, then a slice of opal and an added base. In this case the slice of opal is cut flat without a buffer top. This allows a transparent material to be attached to the opal from above. Remember that you would also have a dark material attached to the opal from below.

In the conventional manufacturing process, opal triplet gems were made with natural stones added above and below the opal. The stone added above obviously needed to be transparent, and natural colorless crystal or quartz or even white topaz was used for this. The base was much like the opal doublet base so boulder, black onyx or black agate gems were used for this purpose. This type of opal triplet is fine but, unfortunately they are no longer made in this way. In recent years, the Chinese have perfected the art of making junk quality opal triplets. Sadly some very big gem and jewelry houses peddling their wares on TV and through direct retail channels, proudly sell these junk triplets. Cheap white plastic or resin is used above the opal, and equally cheap black plastic sheets are used at the bottom. The horrible part is that, the opal slice itself is so very thin that, it is hardled as thin as a paper sheet. So when these stones are sold for 10$ to even 30$ a piece, the buyer actually gets more of cheap plastic and resin in that price. The opal itself is sliced so very thin that it would weigh less than a carat! At Kaisilver we do not engage in such gimmicks and therefore prefer not to use opal triplet stones in the opal gemstone jewelry that we custom make.
